Now, the title of this post is a little bit misleading. I did have an interview this past week, but I definitely don't think I aced it. This past week was the ISM Business Symposium, and I had my first interview with a business professional. This being my first interview, I was very nervous, and the mild technical mishaps definitely threw me off. Nonetheless, I had a pleasant interview, despite my obvious nerves and mild stutters. My interviewer was very accommodating, and gave me some useful tips I will definitely be utilizing in the future. My interviewer told me that confidence is key in any professional setting, and she also gave me a trick to landing a job in a future interview - researching the company beforehand and being able to decide what you can personally bring to the company shows that you are invested and dedicated. I may not be looking for a job anytime soon, but that's definitely something I hadn't thought about before and will continue to remember throughout my professional career. Although I may not have aced this interview, I definitely gained some insight and experience, and I have more knowledge that will help me ace my next interview.
In addition to preparing for my Business Symposium interview this week, I looked into civil engineering firms and civil engineers near me. I compiled a contact list of 30 professionals, most of whom are based in the area. I noticed a lot of civil engineers work in local government - I think it'll be really interesting to interview with an engineer who works in government and an engineer who works at a private firm, and note the differences between them. Expertise in civil engineering can be useful in a variety of jobs, and I think this is really intriguing. I'm excited to contact civil engineers in the coming week and hopefully land a few interviews!
