How to Prepare for a Loaded Week

This past week was a bit slower in terms of homework and assignments, not just in ISM but in my other classes as well. I took it a bit easy last week, finishing all my assignments and mentally preparing for the metaphorical storm that would knock me down next week. I was hoping that I’d be able to conduct my second meeting with a potential mentor last week, but I hadn’t yet got an email response. I’m hoping to get a response early this coming week so I can schedule a meeting this week and hopefully confirm my mentor by the end of next week.

I also started doing some surface level research into the problems facing civil engineers today to start to get an idea of what I might want to do my original work on. Some of these issues included creating sustainable communities, rebuilding infrastructure, building renewable energy platforms, and reducing traffic congestion. Of the topics I briefly researched, I’m most interested in looking into sustainable communities and conducting more research. I haven’t decided yet if I want to create a research project or what my final product will be, but I’m looking forward to learning more about this problem and coming up with creative ways to compile and demonstrate my hard work and research.

This week, I will be presenting my research, reflection, and personal/professional growth speech. I’ve been conducting research and interviews in the field of civil engineering for the past couple months, and I’ve been working on my presentation and professionalism skills. I’m excited to show my peers what I’ve learned, and I’m also excited to learn from my peers. I’ve been hearing from many of my friends about their interviews and research, so I’m interested in seeing their presentations as well.

My goals for the coming week are to schedule and conduct a second interview with a professional, hopefully secure a mentor, present my reflection speech, and write my original work proposal. This is going to be a loaded week, but I’m excited to see what I can come up with!
